There isn’t anything more exciting than traveling. If you are heading overseas or just keeping to your own country, you should build your knowledge about traveling first. Here is some advice that will simplify your travel plans.
Be vigilant when dealing with local police or other officials, in case they’re not who they claim to be, but instead are imposters. Don’t give anyone your original passport; you will probably never see it again. If you are made to go to an office, do so by foot. Do not get into the car of someone you do not know.
When planning a trip, select your digital camera with the needs of your trip in mind. If you are planning on backpacking, for example, a rechargeable battery may not be the answer. In any case, take a digital camera that is quick to turn on and focus so you won’t miss the shot you want.
If you are on a short or long flight, don’t expect the airline to supply your essentials. Bring your own pillow, blanket and headphones if you think you will need them. Don’t forget to pack a few snacks to make sure you have some food that you enjoy during the flight.
If you’re staying in a hotel, especially in a less developed country, and you’re worried about someone possibly coming into your room in the night, bring a doorstop with you. These little wedges are generally used to keep doors open, but they can hold doors closed, too.
Research as much as you can before you book anything. Find websites that contain reviews of potential destinations. Talk to people who have went to your destination. Research will ensure you don’t end up in over your head.
Let a family member have access to the travel itinerary you will be following. Then, people at home will always know where you are during your travels. Make certain to stay in close touch with that individual. They will know you’re safe if they hear from you regularly.
Not everyone finds it affordable to stay at fancy hotels, and you may even find yourself in a one-star or less hotel. If the area makes you uncomfortable but there’s no other choice, take a rubber doorstop. After locking your hotel room door, you can put down the doorstop to further secure it. It is more difficult to get past these than locks.
Always check expiration dates on of all of your passports. A lot of countries have certain rules concerning passports. If your passport expires soon, many countries will refuse you entrance into their country. Typically if your passport is due to expire in 3-6 months you will be denied visitation. However, this time frame can extend to 8-12 months.
Try to find parking well ahead of time. The cost of parking is higher if you don’t pre-book. Make sure, though, to compare the cost of long-term parking to the cost of taking a cab to the airport.
Now you have some ideas to help your plans go smoothly. Be sure you bring a camera!
